Family Style Steak Parmigiana

A Perfect Weekend Family Meal!


Steak parmigiana is a classic Italian-American dish that is easy to make at home with simple ingredients. This dish is perfect for a quick and hearty meal that is sure to satisfy your everyone in the family. In this recipe, as it's for the holidays, we are using 4oz Filet Mignons as the star ingredient (though you can easily substitute with Sirloin), topped with a scratch-made tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. If you are ready to impress your family and friends with this mouth-watering dish, let's get started!

Ingredients:
For the Steaks:
- 4oz Filet Mignon, sliced horizontally in half, pressed thin, seasoned with salt & pepper
(You can easily sub in your favorite cut: sirloin, ribeye, or NY strip.  Just needs to be pounded out to a thinner cut)
- 1 cup of seasoned all-purpose flour (seasoned with salt and pepper)
- 4 large eggs (beaten, seasoned with salt and pepper)
- 2 cups of Panko breadcrumbs (Seasoned with 1/2c grated Parmigiano)
- 1-2 Balls of Fresh Mozzarella 
- Freshly Grated Parmigiano Reggiano

For the Sauce:
- 1 can of crushed tomatoes (we used San Marzano's)
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 3-4 Cloves of Fresh Sliced Garlic
- Fresh basil leaves (optional)
-1tsp of chili flakes (optional)
-pinch of sugar or a squeeze of honey (optional)

For Garnish: (Optional)
- Balsamic Glaze
-Freshly Torn Basil Leaves

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.

2. In three separate bowls, plates, or pans, setup your dredging station.
Seasoned Flour, Seasoned Beaten Eggs, Seasoned Panko breadcrumbs

3. Dredge each steak cut in the flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it in the beaten eggs and coat it with breadcrumbs. Make sure to press the breadcrumbs onto the meat so they adhere well.  You can also double-dredge for an extra coating.

4. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the steaks and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Transfer the steaks to a baking dish.

5. Pour the tomato sauce (Recipe Below) under and over the steaks, spreading it evenly to cover each one. Top each steak with a generous amount of sliced mozzarella cheese and grated parmigiano.

6. Bake the steaks in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

7. Remove the baking dish from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and balsamic glaze, if desired.

8. Serve hot with your favorite side dish, such as roasted vegetables, pasta, or mashed potatoes.

Homemade Fresh Tomato Sauce:  An Easy Go-To for any recipe calling for a red sauce!

1. Over medium heat, sauté the basil & sliced garlic in Olive Oil for 2 minutes until translucent.
2. If Desired, add your chili flakes, and sauté for another 30 seconds.
3.  Add a 32oz can of crushed tomatoes and a pinch of sugar/honey.
4. Add a 1/2c water and simmer (light bubble) your sauce for 10-15 minutes until well combined and emulsified. Season with Salt and Pepper to taste.
