Barbecue Pizza Sauce

Barbecue Pizza Sauce

Makes about 4 cups

The heat of the jalapeño cuts the sweetness here for a nicely balanced sauce. It’s a perfect fit for a grilled pizza with beef and smoky cheddar cheese.

  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon mustard powder
  • Salt and pepper, to tast

In a pot, sauté the onion, garlic, and jalapeño until soft and onion becomes translucent. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer until the sauce becomes thick and bubbly. Carefully transfer the sauce to a blender or food processor and pulse until smooth.
